Events & Performance Opportunities

Joy to our World Christmas Show: Students will meet on a Saturday morning in December at the Water House Foods Bakery & Café in Lake Mills to perform Christmas selections for customers and to make gingerbread houses and Christmas cards. Following, students will head to Willowbrook Nursing Home to hand out cards and gingerbread houses to the residents while Emily plays some Christmas selections for the residents.

Auditions at UW-Whitewater: Students interested in performing 2-3 pieces for a judge to receive comments and points towards a plaque recognizing student accomplishment participate in the Wisconsin Music Teacher’s Association’s annual Auditions event at UW-Whitewater, typically held on the third Saturday in March. Students have the opportunity to go on to the State level and perform on (also typically) the third Saturday in May.

Spring Recital: Students will prepare performances with their ensemble groups to perform at the spring recital. Students may also prepare a solo as well. The recital is always followed by the much-anticipated build-your-own ice cream social!

Summer Piano Olympics: A new activity for summer students, this opportunity features several events for students to participate in, including performance, theory, ear training, sightreading, ensemble playing, and creative project entries. Students will receive critique and awards recognizing their achievement!

Composition Competition: This competition, held in August, is for students interested in submitting an original composition in their age category. Ten points are automatically earned towards the Auditions plaques – plus more if the student places!

“Originals Only” Recital: A recital featuring only student compositions. Students may perform the composition they submitted to the Composition Competition, or any original work they composed in the past year.

More details about all these events will be sent to families throughout the school year.
